Visiting Policies

Up-To-Date Visitor Policy

Labor and Delivery: The birth of a baby is a highly personal, intimate experience for every woman and her family. Each family’s experience is shaped by their unique needs. We believe in safe, compassionate care during your birth experience. While we make every effort to include family members that you would like to have present to support you during this special time, the safety and comfort of you and your baby remain our highest priority.

Maternity: We encourage all family and friends to visit the new family after delivery in their assigned room on the Maternity Unit, during the hours of 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. For your baby’s safety, we ask that you screen all visitors for colds or illness prior to their visit. In addition, we request that young family members remain in mom’s room and be supervised by an adult other than the new mom at all times.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: If your infant is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will receive information specific to that area. We strongly believe that parent’s presence in the unit is essential to their infant’s recovery.

Safety and Security

At Saint Francis Hospital, the safety and security of your baby—as well as your peace of mind—are of top priority to us. Following your birth, you, your infant and your designated person will have matching identification bands to wear throughout your stay. A security tag will be placed on the infant as well. Hospital staff check these frequently when handling your baby, and any time your infant leaves or returns to your room.

Waiting Area

The lounge areas near the elevators next to labor and delivery and outside the maternity unit doors are available as a waiting area for family and friends. To maintain patient privacy, we ask visitors to wait in these areas and not wait in the corridors of the units.

Saint Francis Baby & Me App

Saint Francis Baby & Me (available on the App Store and Google Play) contains comprehensive prenatal and newborn information to help guide expecting mothers from the beginning of their pregnancy to postpartum care. The app provides new and expecting mothers with a variety of tools and resources to help them during this exciting time.

Public Bathrooms

Located in the corridor between Labor & Delivery and Maternity, on the right side of the corridor (near Fetal Diagnostics).

Camera and Video Use

We encourage family photos after delivery. Use of still cameras is encouraged in the Labor and Delivery and in the C-section room after the baby is delivered. Video cameras may not be used during delivery and or in the C-section room.

Use of Personal Equipment in Your Room

AC powered personal grooming items, such as hair dryers and shavers, may only be used at the ground-fault protected outlet in the patient bathroom.
