PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program

Currently Recruiting for 2027-2028

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has a long-standing commitment to postgraduate pharmacy education and the advancement of pharmacy practice. Since 2000, the organization has trained pharmacy residents through its ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program and has expanded residency opportunities through specialized programs, including Connecticut's first ASHP-accredited PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program and its PGY2 Thrombosis and Hemostasis Management Pharmacy Residency Program. Building on this strong foundation and more than 15 years of experience integrating pharmacists into ambulatory and community-based care, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center is proud to launch its PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program.

Currently holding ASHP Pre-Candidate Status, the program is recruiting its inaugural resident to begin training on July 1, 2027. As part of Trinity Health of New England, Saint Francis Hospital serves a diverse patient population through an extensive network of outpatient pharmacies, ambulatory clinics, specialty services, and community partnerships.
The PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy education to develop practice-ready pharmacists who provide comprehensive medication management across community and ambulatory care settings. Residents will gain experience in direct patient care, care transitions, specialty pharmacy services, medication access, population health initiatives, practice management, teaching, and research while collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams across the continuum of care.

Upon completion of the program, residents will:

  • Be eligible and prepared to pursue board certification
