Resident Wellness
We recognize that residency is both rewarding and demanding, and we are deeply committed to supporting the well-being of our trainees. Resident wellness is built into our culture, curriculum, and daily practice.
Our approach includes:
- Protected Time and Duty Hour Oversight: We closely monitor duty hours to ensure compliance with ACGME requirements, allowing residents the time needed for rest, recovery, medical appointments, and personal commitments. Dedicated wellness days are incorporated into the schedule.
- Mental Health and Emotional Support: Complimentary access to mental health services, including support from a psychologist and life coach. Residents also have access to institutional resources, like the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and HealthStream, designed to support emotional well-being and resilience during the challenges of residency training.
- Mentorship and Career Development: Faculty advisors provide individualized mentorship, career planning, professional development, and advocacy throughout residency. Interns also benefit from peer mentorship focused on electronic medical record efficiency, helping them develop workflow optimization skills.
- Community and Camaraderie: A strong sense of community is central to our program. Regular social events, wellness activities, holiday celebrations, team-building events, and resident gatherings foster meaningful relationships among residents, faculty, and staff. - Wellness in Action: We strive to support residents in practical ways that make daily life easier and provide multiple benefits, as detailed on the benefits page.
- Wellness Resources: Residents have access to a variety of wellness spaces and resources, including:
- Serenity Room
- 24/7 access to the hospital chapel
- Dedicated Muslim prayer room
- Peer and faculty support networks
- A Family-Friendly Community: We understand that residency affects not only the resident but also their loved ones. We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where residents, their families, and even their four-legged companions are embraced as valued members of our community.
