Inclusive Engagement

We are committed to fostering a training environment where residents from all backgrounds feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. We welcome applicants of all races, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our residents and faculty bring a rich variety of perspectives and life experiences that strengthen our community and improve the care we provide to our patients.

Our program actively promotes:

  • Inclusive Recruitment. We seek residents from diverse pathways, including U.S. and international medical graduates, and consider the unique strengths each applicant brings.
  • Inclusive culture. Our faculty represents a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, enriching clinical and educational training. We create spaces for cultural exchange through initiatives such as Multicultural Noon Conferences, Educational sessions on diversity and inclusion, Martin Luther King Jr. Week events, potlucks, and team-building activities.
  • Equitable Learning Environment. We are dedicated to creating a safe, respectful space where residents can learn, grow, and thrive without bias or discrimination.
  • Support for All Trainees. Through mentorship, wellness initiatives, and faculty advocacy, we ensure that every resident has the resources needed for personal and professional success.
  • Community engagement. Our residents and faculty are active participants in outreach programs that promote equity, like Back-to-school drives and the annual Black Men in White Coats Initiative, and promote resident involvement in outreach programs, like the annual Stroke community outreach event.

Diversity is not only a core value of our residency, it is a driving force behind our mission: to train compassionate, skilled internists who reflect and serve the communities they care for.
