About
Joseph DeSimone, MD, serves as Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Saint Francis Hospital. He specializes in minimally invasive surgical approaches and advanced treatments and procedures, including mitral valve repair, aortic valve surgery, obstructive HCM, complex aortic surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting, as well as high-risk open-heart surgery such as double and triple valve replacement. Before joining Saint Francis in September 2024, Dr. DeSimone served as an attending surgeon at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University since 2007. With over 18 years of experience, he subscribes to the philosophy that patients should be able to have “big” heart surgery through small incisions.
Dr. DeSimone received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed a general surgery residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and a Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. A native of West Hartford, Dr. DeSimone was born at Saint Francis and is dedicated to providing the highest caliber heart surgery to the greater Hartford community.
