HARTFORD, Conn. – Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, Hartford Market President for Trinity Health Of New England, was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA), as announced at the association’s annual meeting and awards ceremony. Powell-Stafford will serve as an At-Large Trustee, where her duties will include working with the Board to develop strategies for CHA hospital members, advocating for the highest quality care for patients, and supporting adequate reimbursement for hospitals.

Powell-Stafford oversees Saint Francis Hospital, the largest Catholic hospital in New England, and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, the largest provider of acute rehabilitation services in Connecticut. Under her leadership, Saint Francis has led the region in offering advanced, state-of-the-art technologies, including the expansion of the minimally invasive surgical program, and increased offerings in cardiovascular care, women’s health, and pulmonology. Saint Francis has been recognized nationally, being named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report and earning accolades from the American Heart Association and Healthgrades. In addition, Saint Francis was recently recertified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level I Trauma Center.

Powell-Stafford arrived in Hartford with over 25 years of experience, having most recently served as President and CEO of HCA Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Prior to her time at HCA Northside, she held a number of leadership positions in other HCA Healthcare Florida hospitals. Powell-Stafford began her career in Connecticut, serving as an Administrative Fellow and Associate Director of Ambulatory Services at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Powell-Stafford also serves on the Board of the MetroHartford Alliance. She received her Master of Health Science Administration from the University of Michigan. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, currently serving as Chairperson of the Ethics Committee, is a Past Governor, and earned the organization’s Exemplary Service Award.
