WATERBURY, Conn. – Saint Mary’s Hospital is proud to announce the acquisition of the Da Vinci 5 surgical system, the latest innovation in robotic assisted surgery and the only system of its kind available in the greater Waterbury area. This addition marks a major step forward in the hospital’s expanding minimally invasive surgical program, bringing patients the benefits of shorter recovery time, reduced risk of complications and improved outcomes.

The arrival of the Da Vinci 5 represents a significant milestone for Saint Mary’s. “We are thrilled to bring this advanced, integrated robotic surgery system to Waterbury,” said Robert Roose, MD, MPH, President Saint Mary’s Hospital. “Our surgeons are experts in robotic-assisted, minimally invasive procedures and adding this new system underscores our commitment to providing the most innovative, highest-quality care to our patients throughout the region.”

“The Da Vinci 5 will help us expand our surgical program and provide even more advanced surgical care for our patients,” said Isha Emhoff, MD, Chair of Surgery at Saint Mary’s. “This new system complements our existing robotic surgery technology, empowering us to offer a wider array of treatment options and procedures.”

The Da Vinci 5 is designed to enhance surgeon precision and expand minimally invasive options across multiple specialties, including surgical oncology, thoracic, bariatric, urological, gynecological and general surgeries. It incorporates more than 150 new enhancements to support surgeon autonomy, next-generation 3D visualization, improved image processing and newly engineered controllers for smoother, more precise movements.<

Developed through more than a decade of research and informed by over 14 million procedures performed on prior generations of Da Vinci systems, the Da Vinci 5 builds on a proven foundation of clinical effectiveness and operational performance.
