Johnson Memorial Hospital's Wound Center Marks 10 Years of Service to Local Community
April 10, 2022Enfield, Conn. – With state-of-the-art equipment and specialized wound care, Johnson Memorial Hospital's Wound Center opened 10 years ago to take a leading role in battling a growing healthcare crisis.
Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the number is expected to increase by two percent annually over the next decade. The rising incidence of chronic wounds can also be correlated to obesity, vascular disease, an aging population, and radiation treatment side-effects which are often underlying causes.
The Wound Center has provided specialized care for thousands of patients since 2012. The advanced treatments available at the Center include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings, and growth factor therapies.
Another advanced therapy offered by Wound Center is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. During the non-invasive procedure, patients receive treatment relaxing on a bed incased in a large see-through plastic shell as they are surrounded by 100 percent oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen medicine may be used to treat wounds related to more than one dozen conditions including diabetic foot ulcers, radiation injuries to tissue and bone, necrotizing infections, compromised skin grafts and skin flaps and some types of arterial insufficiency and ischemia.
"Johnson Memorial Hospital is committed to the continuous improvement of our clinical technology to provide our clinicians access to the best tools and provide patients access to the most advanced treatments possible. The services offered at the Wound Center are in line with this commitment and will continue to benefit these vulnerable patients," said Stuart Rosenberg, M.B.A., President, Johnson Memorial Hospital.
