About

Ronald Gross, M.D. is a Trauma Surgeon with Trinity Health Of New England at Saint Francis Hospital.

As an attending surgeon at Saint Francis, Dr. Gross was responsible for teaching and mentoring surgical residents from the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University, and the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also mentored new trauma and acute care surgeons, revived the Annual Trauma Symposium, and was involved in outreach activities to regional EMS providers.

Dr. Gross has been actively involved in community education, teaching STOP THE BLEED courses across the country since 2015. He has developed multiple courses for the American College of Surgeons, including Advanced Trauma Operative Management, Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness, and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma. Dr. Gross has mentored and advised multiple medical students throughout his years of practice, and has been invited to present regionally, nationally, and internationally on a wide variety of topics.

Dr. Gross received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Bellevue Medical Center. He followed with a cardiovascular research fellowship before serving as the Chief Surgical Resident in general surgery at the same institution. Dr. Gross was also a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves for over a decade, where he held several assignments, including as the Deputy Commander, Clinical Services and Trauma Surgeon for the 912th Forward Surgical Team in Baghdad, Iraq.

Dr. Gross is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the New England Surgical Society, the American Trauma Society, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT), were he received the National Safety Council Surgeons’ Award for Service to Safety in 2018, an award given to one member of the ACS COT each year. He has won numerous awards from his military service, including the prestigious Order of Military Merit, and as a civilian, has authored extensive peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and presented at international, national, and regional conferences. He is a founding member of the Chest Wall Injury Society (CWIS) and served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CWIS from its founding in 2017 to 2021.
