About
Dr. Melissa Henretta is a Connecticut native, raised in Orange. She is a 1996 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross. She worked for Andersen Consulting (Accenture) for three years prior to matriculation at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She traveled to Ohio for her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at The Ohio State University, where her desire to become a Gynecologic Oncologist truly crystallized. Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship took her to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where she also graduated with a Master of Public Health degree. Following completion of fellowship, she worked as a Gynecologic Oncologist at Stony Brook University Hospital from 2011-2017. During her time at Stony Brook, she was honored to receive the CREOG Faculty Award in 2013 and had the pleasure to serve as the residency program director for three years, being named Program Director of the Year by the Designated Institutional Official. When ‘family called,’ she and her husband returned home to Connecticut to finish raising their children.
Dr. Henretta has been a Gynecologic Oncologist at Saint Francis Hospital since 2017. She is board certified in general Obstetrics & Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. She has clinical appointments through the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Quinnipiac University Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. Dr. Henretta had stayed active in medical student education as the site director for the fourth-year medical student’s Gynecologic Oncology rotation, the site director for University of Connecticut third year medical students on their OB/Gyn clerkship, and as a preceptor for continuity clinic for the University of Connecticut FLEX/CLIC programs. She was awarded the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020. In 2021, she became the co-director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. She was named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and a Connecticut Magazine Top Doctor in 2022.
