Saint Francis Hospital Unveils Cutting-Edge Robotic Surgery System
December 20, 2024HARTFORD, Conn. - Saint Francis Hospital is proud to announce it has acquired the Da Vinci 5 surgical system, the latest technology in robotic assisted surgery. As part of our minimally invasive surgical program expansion, Saint Francis is the first hospital in the greater Hartford area with the Da Vinci 5, a state-of-the-art system that can result in shorter recovery time, reduced risk of complications, and improved patient outcomes.
Saint Francis is the first hospital in the greater Hartford region with the Da Vinci 5 surgical system.
“We are thrilled to bring this advanced, integrated robotic surgery system to Hartford,” said Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, President, Saint Francis Hospital. “Our surgeons at Saint Francis are well-versed in robotic-assisted, minimally invasive procedures, and adding this new system underscores our commitment to providing the most advanced, highest-quality care to our patients throughout the region.”
The Da Vinci 5 is suitable for various procedures, including surgical oncology, thoracic, bariatric, urological, gynecological, and general surgeries, and is designed to enhance surgeon precision with the goal of improving patient outcomes. More than 150 new enhancements have been developed to support surgeon autonomy and enables surgeons to perform intricate procedures with greater accuracy and control, thanks to next-generation 3D display and image processing. In addition, the Da Vinci 5 provides new surgeon controllers, making movements smoother and more precise.
“The Da Vinci 5 will help us expand our surgical program and provide even more advanced surgical care for our patients,” said Kurt Roberts, M.D., FACS, Chair of Surgery at Saint Francis. “This new system compliments our existing robotic surgery technology, empowering us to provide even more advanced treatment options and procedures to our patients.”
The Da Vinci 5 technology was developed from more than a decade of research and development and is built upon the clinical and operational value from more than 14 million procedures performed using various generations of Da Vinci technology.
