Saint Francis Hospital Awarded Thrombectomy-Capable Certification from The Joint Commission
May 17, 2023HARTFORD, Conn. -- Saint Francis Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center.
“Thrombectomy Capable Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “We commend Saint Francis Hospital for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”
Saint Francis underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on March 30 and 31, 2023. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards, including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

Immediate response and medical care at the first sign of stroke symptoms are essential, and access to care, without needing to transfer a patient, helps eliminate treatment delays. The Stroke Center at Saint Francis provides 24-hour stroke care dedicated to treating patients with transient ischemic attack, ischemic, and hemorrhagic strokes. The multidisciplinary stroke team provides a coordinates rapid response system for treating stroke patients.
