Mercy Medical Center Names Chief Medical Officer

Springfield, MA. – Asha Dhamija, M.D., M.P.H., CHCQM, has been named Chief Medical Officer for Trinity Health Of New England's Springfield Market, inclusive of Mercy Medical Center and Johnson Memorial Hospital.

A hospitalist by training, Dr. Dhamija joined Trinity Health Of New England in 2012 as a provider at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where she served as Director of the Stroke Unit. In 2019, Dr. Dhamija transitioned to Johnson Memorial Hospital as Hospitalist Site Director and Physician Advisor. She was named Chief Medical Officer for Johnson in November 2020.

In her tenure as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Dhamija has led care coordination, quality and regulatory initiatives, and medical staff activities with great success, including the achievement of an "A" safety grade from the Leapfrog Group and best-in-class management of patient progression. Under her leadership, Johnson Memorial Hospital also obtained and maintained Acute Stroke Ready Hospital certification.

Dr. Dhamija obtained her medical degree and completed internship at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (B.V.D.U.) in India and her internal medicine and preventive medicine residency at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. As part of her training, Dr. Dhamija earned a Master's in Public Health at the Yale School of Public Health and has also since obtained certification in Healthcare Quality & Management.

In this new role, Dr. Dhamija replaces Dr. Roose whom served as Mercy's Chief Medical Officer for more than three years. Dr. Dhamija and Sue Pettorini-D'Amico, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, will report to Dr. Roose as the trio works collectively to lead strategy, patient care services, and operations for the Springfield Market.
