Greater Hartford Family Advocacy Center
Hours
The Greater Hartford Family Advocacy Center (GHFAC) is a safe and family friendly place where professionals come together to provide trauma informed and evidence-based services to support children and families impacted by violence and abuse. Our services include Forensic Interviews, victim advocacy, and trauma-focused mental health services. We accept external agency referrals and self-referrals received though our intake line. To submit a referral, call (860) 714-5864.
Our Goal
To minimize trauma to child and adult victims of crime by providing direct services that promote healing and recovering as well as self-efficacy through a comprehensive continuum of care model.
Our Services
Forensic Experiential Trauma Interviews (FETI) Adults Ages 18 and Up
FETI interviews are offered for any adult victims of crime, particularly adult victims of sexual assault and/or physical assault, domestic or community violence. FETI methodology is driven by the latest research on the neurobiology of trauma and memory, as the methodology reduces the inaccuracy of information provided during an interview and greatly enhances the understanding of the person’s traumatic or stressful experience.
Family & Victim Advocacy
The Advocates at The GHFAC are committed to providing victims with ongoing support and education. Our clients receive information and referrals to community resources, court education and assistance accessing other services such as protective/restraining orders, applying for public assistance and domestic violence education. Clients also receive assistance with applying for victim compensation through the State of Connecticut Office of Victim Services.
Trauma Informed Behavioral/Mental Health Services
A team of trained mental health professionals provide a continuum of trauma informed therapeutic services to support individuals impacted by violence and their families. Therapeutic services provided by the GHFAC are evidence-based and modified accordingly for cultural needs. Referrals for additional community services are made when appropriate.
