Saint Mary’s Physician Receives Faculty Recognition from Yale

Carolina Borz Baba, M.D. was recently presented with the Yale School of Medicine’s Voluntary Faculty Promoting Research Award. The recognition was presented by Adam Mayerson, M.D., Associate Chief of Medicine, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Chair, Voluntary Faculty Committee.

This award is given annually to a Voluntary Faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution to the education and promotion of clinical, basic or translational research to medical students, physician associate students, residents or fellows associated with Yale School of Medicine and/or Yale New Haven Hospital or the respective affiliated Hospital Program.

“Dr. Borz-Boba is the inaugural recipient of this award based on all she has accomplished to promote research for the residents at Saint Mary's including acting as research and scholarship coordinator for the residency program, establishing the resident research interest group in 2021 and serving as chair of the first Saint Mary’s Research Day in same year. In addition, she serves as principal investigator on eight different research projects,” said Dr. Mayerson.

“She has also made a guide for residents to learn how to critically appraise research articles and has started several educational events for the program including a multicultural conference which started in 2020.”

Dr. Borz-Baba is the Associate Program Director for Saint Mary’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. She received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Before coming to the U.S., she had completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and was a research coordinator in studies focusing on Hepatitis B treatment. Dr. Borz-Baba completed her Internal Medicine Residency training at St. John’s Hospital South Shore in New York, where she also served as a Chief Medical Resident. She is an Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Medicine and has years of experience teaching students and residents. Before assuming the role of Associate Program Director, Dr. Borz-Baba served as Site Director for the Medical Students. Her areas of interest include clinical research, quality improvement related activities, and didactics.

Saint Mary’s has been affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine as a teaching hospital for over 40 years. For more than 15 years, Saint Mary’s served as one of three hospitals for the Yale Primary Care Residency Program, as well as the Yale Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program.
