Saint Mary’s Hospital received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. The Spring 2024 grade signifies the third in a row recognition by Leapfrog and celebrates Saint Mary’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.
“For the third time in a row, Saint Mary’s Hospital has received an ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group. This incredible achievement reflects the continuous hard work and dedication of all colleagues at Saint Mary’s Hospital,” said Kim Kalajainen, President of Saint Mary’s Hospital. “It requires consistent work and accountability at every level of the hospital from our incredible Medical Staff to our outstanding Patient Care Services Team and Support Services colleagues.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“Everyone who works at Saint Mary’s Hospital should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president, and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Saint Mary’s, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
