For the 11th year straight, Saint Mary’s Hospital’s Bariatric and Weight Management program, a part of the Trinity Health Of New England Weight Management Institute, has been named as a Center of Excellence in bariatric surgery, by the Clinical Sciences Institute (CSI) of Optum.

The Clinical Sciences Institute (CSI) of Optum named Saint Mary's Hospital's Bariatric and Weight Management program as a "Center of Excellence" for the 11th straight year.

A recent survey reviewed by the CSI of Optum reported that the Saint Mary’s Hospital facility meets clinical qualifications and maintains a cost-effective contract for participation in the network. “We’re honored to be named an Optum Center of Excellence for the 11th year in a row,” said Shady Macaron, M.D., Regional Director of the Weight Management Institute. “Our success comes from a compassionate, team-based approach that treats obesity as a disease and supports patients every step of the way—before, during, and long after surgery.”

CSI uses publicly reported data-driven metrics to qualify their specialty networks. The Optum Centers of Excellence (COE) Model criteria focuses on five goals:
1)    Expanding access to expert specialty care
2)    Ensuring evidence-based treatment
3)    Improving clinical outcomes
4)    Reducing treatment costs
5)    Improving member experience

“This recognition affirms the meaningful work we do every day at Saint Mary’s Hospital and across Trinity Health Of New England. It’s a celebration of our team’s dedication and the lives we help transform,” said Husnain Kermalli, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Saint Mary’s Hospital.
