It has been three years since Rose started her journey with Saint Mary’s Hospital’s Labor and Delivery department. This year, Rose was recognized by a patient who became a new mom. She shared that Rose supported her through every moment of her contractions. “…she made me feel so comfortable and safe! She was by my side every step of the way, such a sweet and humble soul. God made sure one of his best angels was at the right place and time for me and baby girl.”

The patient also shared that Rose handled her baby with the best care and she would gladly go through the birthing process all over again knowing that Rose will be her forever nurse. “Being presented with this award brought tears to my eyes. I remembered this patient right away and the birth experience she had. I was honored to be a part of it and happy to know I made a positive impact,” Rose said.

Rose shared that it is moments like this that truly make being a nurse meaningful. “The reason I went into nursing is seeing firsthand how a nurse can make a positive impact on a patient's experience,” Rose said, “I wanted to be the nurse that made connections to her patients and did whatever was needed to have a safe and caring environment. It is my personal goal to have my patients trust me and know I will provide them with the best care possible.”

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. Each honoree receives a certificate commending them as an “Extraordinary Nurse.” The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
