Nicole was nominated by a colleague who recognized that her dedication to Saint Mary’s is deeply rooted in patient care and reverence. “She always puts the patient first. She isn’t afraid to help her staff with patient care, she reaches out to her staff to check in consistently. You can tell from the moment you walk onto the unit that she cares,” shared Nicole’s nominator.

Growing up in Waterbury, Nicole was surrounded by family members who worked in the healthcare industry. “Nursing is a part of my family. My aunt was a certified nurse aide (CNA), and my older cousins were licensed practical nurses (LPN). Seeing that in my family inspired me to want to be a nurse,” she said.

Nicole’s journey at Saint Mary’s may seem unconventional, but for her, it was the perfect way to get her foot in the door. She started 18 years ago as a hostess in the Saint Mary’s kitchen and during that time, she studied to become a nurse. “I always wanted to work in a hospital, so this was the perfect role to start in,” she said.

Nicole’s studying paid off, her efforts defining growth and perseverance.  After nursing school, Nicole became an RN at Sacred Heart 3 (SH3). From there, she became the Senior Clinical Advisor (SCA) on SH3 before beginning in her current role as Clinical Nurse Manager of SH3.

“After working with Nicole all these years, and watching her grow as a person, a nurse, and now a manager, I am so proud of all her accomplishments. She has embraced her new role from the moment she started. The morale in the unit is so positive now,” wrote Nicole’s nominator.
