Statewide recognition of the laboratory department continued beyond last month’s Histology Day proclamation. Quentin Whitmore, Pathology Associate at Saint Mary’s Hospital, advanced his advocacy by securing a state proclamation for Medical Laboratory Professionals Week.

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week recognizes the experts who deliver accurate, timely results that directly impact patient care. Quentin was instrumental in obtaining formal state recognition, ensuring the vital work of laboratory teams is acknowledged beyond the hospital.

This effort builds on his earlier success in March, when he secured a statewide proclamation for Histology Day, honoring histotechnicians and the pathology department. “I chose to keep the momentum going because recognition shouldn't be a one-week conversation; it should be a lasting commitment,” said Quentin. “Pushing for Medical Laboratory Professionals Week proclamation is about making the invisible visible, honoring the critical work happening behind the scenes every day. This recognition matters because it elevates awareness, builds pride within our teams and reinforces the value of quality laboratory medicine in patient care.”

The official statement from Governor Ned Lamont states, “Whereas, Medical Laboratory Professionals Week provides the opportunity to recognize and honor these healthcare heroes, so that we all may be made more aware of their hard work and dedication, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic; now therefore, I, Ned Lamont, Governor of the State of Connecticut, in recognition of medical laboratory professionals, I hereby proclaim April 19-25, 2026 Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in the State of Connecticut.”

Across Trinity Health Of New England, ministries celebrated Lab Week with group photos. At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the lab team went all out, dedicating each day to fun themes and connection through “Lunch and Learn” activities.  Festivities included Disney Day, Superhero Day, Twin Day, 80s Day and Group Shirt Day, each paired with engaging Lunch and Learn sessions, plus a Lab Coat Decoration Contest and Bingo to round out the week.

These celebrations and statewide recognitions highlight the essential role of laboratory professionals and ensure they are seen, supported and celebrated.
