Sharlene Powell Wright was honored with a Sunshine Award, recognizing her commitment to compassionate care.

Sharlene was nominated for the Sunshine Award by a family member of a patient she cared for. Her nomination highlighted the care and professionalism she demonstrated while juggling patient care along with other requests and tasks, all while remaining cool and collected with a smile on her face. “People like her are the glue that keeps this whole delicate balance moving,” said Sharlene’s nominator. “As a care provider she was so patient, professional and kind, and we so appreciated her sense of humor.”

The patient’s family member also noted that Sharlene was “an incredible comfort,” showing empathy and patience as they navigated a difficult time. Her nomination concluded by saying, “by every metric, Sharlene deserves this award. You have such an incredible asset in her. We had lots of doctors and nurses and aides at Saint Francis – but none stood out like Sharlene.”

The Sunshine Award acknowledges nursing support team members including nursing assistants, emergency room technicians, and unit secretaries who exemplify excellence in their roles and consistently embody the organization’s Core Values. Recipients of the Sunshine Award are celebrated for putting patients first in their daily work, providing a high standard of care, and making a meaningful impact on the patient’s experience.
