Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, President, Saint Francis Hospital and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, was honored as one of three recipients of the inaugural National Association of Health Services Executives (N.A.H.S.E.) CT Founder’s Award at the 6th Annual Healthcare Leaders Scholarship and Fundraising Dinner. Alongside Gina L. Calder, incoming president of Hartford Healthcare’s Central Region, and Pamela Sutton-Wallace, President, Yale New Haven Health, Valerie was recognized for her outstanding work in healthcare as a community-focused leader who has developed several key partnerships and led initiatives to improve the health and healing of communities.

The N.A.H.S.E. CT Founder’s Award is presented to  distinguished healthcare leaders who have demonstrated remarkable innovation, trailblazing spirit, and exemplary leadership in transforming healthcare. Through their unwavering dedication and groundbreaking achievements, the three awardees embody the core values and mission of N.A.H.S.E.

N.A.H.S.E. is a non-profit association of Black health care executives founded in 1968 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and development of Black health care leaders and elevating the quality of health care services rendered to minority and underserved communities. N.A.H.S.E.’s purpose is to ensure greater participation of minority groups in the health field. 

This year’s theme, Igniting Black Excellence in Healthcare, aimed to bring together senior and rising healthcare leaders across the state to discuss various topics across the healthcare spectrum, honor scholarship recipients, and encourage contributions that will expand access to higher education for future healthcare professionals. 

The 6th Annual Healthcare Leaders Scholarship and Fundraising Dinner took place at Woodwinds in Branford, Conn. Saint Francis was recognized as a Cultivating Sponsor.
