The TogetherTeam Virtual Nursing Team at Saint Francis Hospital was recently honored with a DAISY Award for making a difference in the lives of their patients and their families.
The TogetherTeam Virtual Nursing Team at Saint Francis was honored for their skillful, compassionate care and making a difference in the lives of their patients and colleagues.
The team received multiple nominations for demonstrating nursing excellence, not only with patients and families, but also with their colleagues at the bedside. Each virtual RN (vRN) makes patient safety their top priority, constantly ensuring proper orders, medications, and lab work are being addressed, and communicating with the patient’s care team to ensure optimal care and outcomes. They develop relationships with bedside staff and providers to foster true collaborative care. The vRNs also use their years of experience to help mentor more novice nurses, often guiding, educating, and reassuring their bedside colleagues through procedures or protocols they may not be as familiar with.
In one nomination, it was noted that, “the vRN is the cushion for patients to reach out for information about a procedure, a medication, or just to have an ear to listen to their concerns or fears. They know the importance of the clinical interventions patients need for their conditions, but also know that without attention to the patient’s mental well-being, they will never truly get to a place of recovery. They approach patient care holistically by listening to worries, fears, and concerns, and make sure the team caring for that patient is aware so everyone can help bring them to a better state of mind.”
Each nomination for the vRN team mentioned how these nurses live the Trinity Health Of New England Mission and Core Values each time they interact with a patient or a colleague. “The passion behind each and every interaction is immeasurable. This team embodies exactly what the DAISY Award is about, and they all are so deserving of this honor,” concluded one nomination.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
