Katie Chateau, RN, on the Labor and Delivery unit at Saint Francis Hospital, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for making a difference in the lives of her patients and their families.
Katie, a nurse on Labor and Delivery, was honored for her skillful, compassionate care and making a difference in the lives of her patients.
Katie was nominated by a patient who wanted “to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional care provided," saying the experience was “nothing short of transformative.” The patient wrote that Katie was “a beacon of calm and competence in the midst of the storm. Her unwavering presence, compassionate support and expert medical care were invaluable. She didn’t just attend to my physical needs; she offered emotional support that helped navigate the complexities of a difficult labor and delivery, ultimately guiding us through the joyous arrival of our first child.”
The nomination went on to describe the relief the family felt when Katie was their nurse again during the delivery of their second child, saying that “Katie’s steady hand, calming words and constant reassurance provided immeasurable comfort.” The patient credited Katie for ensuring a safe and positive experience, recognizing her exceptional knowledge, dedication and unwavering kindness.
The patient concluded by saying, “Katie is more than just a skilled nurse; she is a compassionate caregiver, a source of strength and a true advocate for her patients. The level of care she provides transcends the ordinary, making her an invaluable asset to your hospital and an absolute blessing to families like ours. We are eternally grateful for her contribution to the safe and joyful arrival of our children. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had her by our side during these pivotal moments.”
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
