Chau Nguyen, RN, a nurse on 8-7 at Saint Francis Hospital, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for making a difference in the lives of her patients and their families.

Chau Nguyen, RN, was honored with a DAISY Award for her compassionate care and making a difference in the lives of her patients.

Chau was nominated by a patient who had a recent stay at Saint Francis. The patient said, “The first time Chau entered my room to perform her duties, I was in awe. My comfort and needs were her primary concern, and she was there to fulfill my every request if possible. She is an amazing employee, and I feel a master at her craft! She stood out from the other staff that took care of me. Chau was cream of the crop.” The patient also noted Chau’s calming presence, joyful manner, and constant smile, which helped the patient stay calm and feel better.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
