Anna Figueroa, RN, Senior Clinical Advisor in the Emergency Department at Saint Francis Hospital, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for making a difference in the lives of her patients and their families.

Anna, Senior Clinical Advisor in the Emergency Department, was honored for her skillful, compassionate care and making a difference in the lives of her patients.

Anna was nominated by a colleague who described her as “the heartbeat” of the ED, saying, “when I think of the kind of nurse I aspire to be, I think of Anna Figueroa. She is more than just a leader, she is a nurse’s nurse. You know it’s going to be a good day the moment you see Anna walk through the doors. She arrives every shift with a warm smile, positive energy, and an unwavering commitment to support her team. Her presence alone brings a sense of calm, motivation, and reassurance to a high-stress environment.”

Anna’s nomination highlighted her leadership and dedication to her colleagues and exceptional patient care. She is always willing to lend a hand or take an assignment, keeping the department running like a well-oiled machine with “professionalism, empathy, and just the right amount of humor.”

The colleague who nominated Anna recognized her guidance and mentorship, saying, “she leads by example, teaches without judgement, and lifts up those around her. I’ve learned so much from her – not just how to be a better nurse, but how to stay grounded, resilient, and human in this demanding profession. Anna embodies everything the DAISY Award stands for: clinical excellence, compassion, integrity, and inspiration. She is the kind of nurse who makes everyone better, simply by being herself. I feel truly lucky to work alongside her and hope to carry the same presence and leadership into my own practice someday. Thank you, Anna, for being our rock, our mentor, and our daily dose of wisdom and laughter.”

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
