Patty Cinea, RN, a nurse on 7 West at Mount Sinai, was recently honored with a DAISY Award for making a difference in the lives of her patients and their families.

Patty was nominated by a colleague who began the nomination by saying, “Patty is literally one of the best RNs I have ever worked with in my entire career.” The colleague continued, saying, “Patty is always patient-focused and comes to work every single shift with a smile, patience, and compassion. Patty displays great de-escalation skills and respect for her patients.”

It was noted that Patty is adept at analyzing why a patient may be having a bad day, finding disconnects in communication, and adapting and understanding in order to engage and care for her patients. She connects with both patients and their families and is always a compassionate and thoughtful nurse. Her nomination concluded by recognizing Patty’s work ethic and the respect her colleagues have for her.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
