Mercy Announces Latest DAISY Award Recipients
DAISY Award recipients Renata Borkowski, BSN, RN, and Jenna Pellegrino, BSN, RN.

Congratulations to Jenna Pellegrino, BSN, RN, and Renata Borkowski, BSN, RN, for being selected as the most recent recipients of the DAISY Award. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues.

Serving as nurses in Mercy Medical Center's Medical/Surgical Unit, Jenna and Renata are known for their kind, caring approach with patients and their family members. In one nomination form, a patient’s family member wrote that Jenna “was always there when we needed help or answers to our questions,” while Renata went out of her way to make sure the patient was comfortable and able to rest. Both nurses are also credited with having a calming effect on their patients, a quality that was also noted in the nomination form.

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes to recognize nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
