Congratulations to Maxine Allen, BSN, RN, for being selected as Mercy Medical Center’s most recent recipient of the DAISY Award. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues.
Serving as a nurse in Mercy’s Endoscopy Unit, Maxine is known as a team player and a hard worker. In one nomination form, a colleague wrote that Maxine “never stops caring and advocating for her patients, whether at the bedside or over the phone” before a procedure. The colleague also noted that although patients are often anxious when they come into the Endoscopy Unit for a procedure, “Maxine always comforts them and offers words of encouragement.” Maxine is also credited with going out of her way to make sure all patient questions and concerns around diet restrictions and pre-procedure preparations are addressed in a friendly, comprehensive manner.
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes to recognize nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
