Your Stories: Colleagues Complete Medical Interpreter Training Program

Congratulations to our dedicated colleagues, Olinda Garza Saenz, Administrative Fellow, Trinity Health Of New England; Nory Jimenez, Registered Medical Assistant, Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group; Emily Mendez, Medical Assistant, Trinity Health Of New England; Theresa Lorenzo-Lazu, Surgical Scheduler, Saint Francis Hospital; Silvia Lugo, Medical Assistant, Trinity Health Of New England; and Enkeleda Poka, Lab Technologist, Saint Francis Hospital; who recently completed Trinity Health Of New England's Medical Interpreter Training Program.

The medical interpreter qualification program is designed to offer current full-time bilingual or multilingual colleagues in-house medical interpreter training. The goal of the training is to provide trainees with the basic foundation for the interpreting profession. As part of the requirements, colleagues must pass a Language Proficiency Assessment (LPA), which tests their proficiency level in their selected language and participate in a 40-hour hybrid training program, facilitated by Interpreters and Translators., Inc. (iTi). At the end of the training, colleagues must pass the medical interpreter examination and Medical Terminology quiz in order to successfully complete the program.

The most recent cohort completed their 40-hour training in October and will begin to serve in a dual role, as interpreters for their respective departments.
