Congratulations to Alexis Grey, LPN, for being selected as a recipient of the DAISY Award. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues.

Bishop William Byrne celebrates Mass at Mercy Medical Center.

Serving in the Adult Behavioral Health Unit at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Alexis is known for always demonstrating “compassion, empathy, and integrity” in every encounter. She is also credited with easily creating a rapport with her patients, whether she is sitting quietly while they work on a puzzle together or printing out educational sheets to help patients better understand their medication and ultimately improve their compliance with their medication schedule going forward. In one nomination form, a colleague wrote “Alexis is someone our patients all remember and feel comforted by.” Alexis is also committed to furthering her professional development as she is working toward her BSN.

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes to recognize nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
