Your Stories: Medical Staff Awards Presented at Johnson

At the annual Medical Staff meeting at Johnson Memorial Hospital (JMH) on October 22, four Medical Staff Awards for 2026 were presented. The award recipients were nominated by colleagues serving on the Medical Executive Committee.

The 2026 Medical Staff President's Award recognizes an individual for his or her exceptional leadership ability and devotion to JMH and its Medical Staff. Michelle Cunha, MSN, RN, Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department, Respiratory Therapy and Perioperative Services, received the Medical Staff President’s Award.
The 2026 Medical Staff Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a practitioner for their years of dedication to JMH, its Medical Staff and patients. Michael Bernstein, MD, a member of the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology at JMH since September 1987, received the Medical Staff Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 2026 Medical Staff Emerging Leader Award recognizes a practitioner who is an engaged member of the JMH Medical Staff with a strong commitment to the hospital. Joshua Fainsod, MD, a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at JMH since January 2024, received the Medical Staff Emerging Leader Award.
The 2026 Medical Staff Provider of the Year Award recognizes a Medical Staff member who best represents JMH to the community, is active in leadership, and supports the Trinity Health Of New England Mission and Core Values. Nicholas Grillo, MD, a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at JMH since March 2023, received the Medical Staff Provider of the Year Award.
