Kimberly Mazzetti, RN was honored recently with The DAISY® Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day.
Kimberly Mazzetti, RN, in the ICU is honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Mary’s for 5 years, Kim was recognized by a patient’s family who stated that Kim was “very kind and accommodating to the family,” allowing each member to take part in the end of the patient’s journey despite a large crowd in the room, in the middle of the night. The family also shared that Kim treated their family member with gentleness and reverence and made a concerted effort to make the end-of-life process easier on the family.
“The opportunity to make a profound impact on patients' lives during their most vulnerable moments is incredibly rewarding,” said Kim. “I believe that in working with critically sick patients I am able to use my critical thinking skills to save lives and help patients and families during the grieving times as well.”
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. Each honoree receives a certificate commending them as an “Extraordinary Nurse.” The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
