Congratulations to Alex Payes, BSN, RN, for his selection as a recipient of the DAISY Award. Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues.
Mercy DAISY Award recipient Alex Payes, BSN, RN.
Serving as a nurse in Mercy’s Cardiac Cath/Interventional Radiology Department, Alex is known for doing everything he can to ensure that his patients are safe and well cared for. Attentive and compassionate, Alex was recently credited with staying by a patient’s side for an extended period following a procedure, applying pressure to the puncture site. In the nomination form she submitted, the patient referred to Alex as her “guardian angel,” also noting that his actions exemplify outstanding nursing care. “Alex was beyond incredible,” she continued.
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes, who was 33 years old when he died of complications from an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was not only impressed by the clinical care provided by Patrick’s nurses, but also by the compassion and kindness they brought to his bedside day in and day out. The nurses’ sensitivity made a great difference in the Barnes’ experience, and they wanted to say thank you to nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day.
