Your Stories: Mercy’s Rachel Little Selected as DAISY Award Recipient
May 7, 2025Categories: Awards and Recognition
Congratulations to Rachel Little, BSN, RN, for her selection as Mercy Medical Center’s most recent DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.
Rachel Little, BSN, RN, DAISY Award recipient, with DAISY Award founder Teena Barnes.
Rachel serves as a telemetry nurse, and she was nominated for the award by a patient. Part of the nomination stated, “Rachel is what I call an amazing nurse and a person who is there to help. She was always there for me, and I thank her so very much! I will never forget you!”
In a special twist, the award was presented to Rachel by Teena Barnes, the wife of Patrick Barnes for whom the DAISY Award was founded in 1999. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
Nurses go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care but also compassion. The DAISY Foundation aims to honor them by showing profound gratitude for all that they do. The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers.
