Your Stories: Johnson Announces Recipients of Medical Staff Awards

At the annual Medical Staff meeting at Johnson Memorial Hospital (JMH) on October 15, four Medical Staff awards for 2025 were presented. The award recipients were nominated by colleagues serving on the Medical Executive Committee.

Asha Dhamija, MD, Chief Medical Officer; and Roy Kellerman, Jr., MD, President's Award Recipient and Medical Staff President.
The 2025 Medical Staff President's Award recognizes an individual for his or her exceptional leadership ability and devotion to JMH and its Medical Staff. Roy Kellerman, Jr., MD, a member of the Department of Medicine, Section of Hospitalist Medicine at JMH since January 2015, received the Medical Staff President’s Award.
The 2025 Medical Staff Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a practitioner for their years of dedication to JMH, its Medical Staff and patients. Vasilios Karabinis, MD, a member of the Department of Surgery, Sections of General and Vascular Surgery at JMH since October 1991, received the Medical Staff Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Medical Staff Emerging Leader Award 2025 recognizes a practitioner who is an engaged member of the JMH Medical Staff with a strong commitment to the hospital. Nicholas L. Grillo, MD, a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine at JMH since March 2023, received the Medical Staff Emerging Leader Award.
The Medical Staff Provider of the Year Award 2025 recognizes a Medical Staff member who best represents JMH to the community; who is active in leadership; and who supports the Trinity Health principles. Rizwan Ishtiaq, MD, a member of the Department of Medicine, Section of Hospitalist Medicine at JMH since November 2021, received the Medical Staff Provider of the Year Award.
At the annual Medical Staff meeting, colleagues also honored Younus Masih, MD, who retired on October 31 after 44 years of service at JMH. During the recognition, Dr. Masih was presented with a gift from the Medical Staff and a cake.
Dr. Masih joined the JMH Medical Staff on June 11, 1981, as member of the Department of Medicine, Section of Pulmonary Medicine. Throughout the years, he has served on many medical staff committees, including the Medical Executive Committee, Administrative Affairs, and ICU. He has also served as the chairperson for the Section of Pulmonary Medicine for most of his tenure at JMH.
