Your Stories: Saint Francis Nurses Celebrated for Completing Nurse Residency Program
Nurse residents from several departments were recognized for their completion of the yearlong Nurse Residency Program.

Saint Francis Hospital celebrated 20 nurse residents for their work during the one-year Nurse Residency Program. Nurses from several departments throughout the hospital participated in the program, including Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Maternity, Surgical Cardiology, Emergency Department, and the Main Operating Room.

Over the last year, the nurse residents attended seminars that covered leadership, quality outcomes, and the professional role. They also collaborated with their residency colleagues, nurse residency program coordinators, Nursing Professional Development Specialists (NPDS), and others to complete evidence-based practice (EBP) projects. EBP project topics covered areas such as the Teach-Back Method on Fall Prevention, Impact of a CLABSI Bundle Education Program, Staff Comfort and Proficiency with Emergent Re-sternotomy, and Reducing Burnout in Emergency Room Nurses.

“The growth of these nurses has been nothing short of admirable,” said Linda Gilbert, RN, Nursing Professional Development Specialist. “Each of these nurses have transformed from novices to professionals and now take on roles such as preceptors and charge nurses on their units.”

The Nurse Residency Program is under the direction of Linda Gilbert, RN; Kaitlyn Savicki, MSNc, BSN, RN; and Melissa Mulvey, MSN, RN-BC.
