Three Nurses Presented with DAISY Awards in Hartford
Krystin Brady, Olivia Chouinard, and Jasmin Wiles were all honored as DAISY Award winners in the Hartford Market.

Three nurses in the Hartford Market were recently presented with DAISY Awards. Krystin Brady, RN, 8-9 at Saint Francis; Olivia Chouinard, RN, Labor and Delivery at Saint Francis; and Jasmin Wiles, RN, Behavioral Health at Mount Sinai, were all recognized for making a difference in the lives of their patients and their families.

Krystin, a nurse on 8-9, was nominated by a colleague because of her “extraordinary care, attentiveness, and dedication to her job.” Her colleague noted that Krystin communicates directly with patients about what to expect and she listens carefully to their questions and concerns. Krystin’s nomination concluded by emphasizing how she “has strong communication skills and a welcoming way with patients and families and is a team player.”

Olivia is a nurse in Labor and Delivery and was nominated by a patient she treated. Her nomination said, “Olivia cared for me so well while I was there. She would not leave after her shift until making sure I was in good physical condition and that I could get up and move around by myself.” Olivia’s nomination also noted her communication during shift change and that she was continuously checking not only on the patient’s physical health, but their emotional well-being. This patient stated how grateful they were for Olivia’s care and compassion, saying, “it was clear that this is much more than a job to her. Olivia does her job so naturally and she embodies what I think nurses strive to do: help.”

Jasmin is a nurse in the Dual Diagnosis Behavioral Health Unit and was nominated by a colleague. Jasmin’s colleague told of an instance in which she was able to help calm a young patient who was extremely homesick. Jasmin worked hand-in-hand with the assigned mental health worker, and her efforts helped make the patient’s stay less difficult and more comfortable until they were discharged.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, his family deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. After he passed, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a public way.
