Saint Mary’s Surgeon Marks Robotic Surgery Milestone

Saint Mary’s Hospital’s, Shohan Shetty, M.D., recently completed his 1000th Da Vinci robotic surgical procedure. Robotic surgeries are minimally invasive, allowing for a more rapid and comfortable recovery for patients. Dr. Shetty is among the few gastrointestinal surgeons in the New England area performing robotic single anastomosis duodenal ileostomies (SADI) and gastric bypasses. In addition, he is a proctor for instruction of robotic surgery and is actively involved in training surgeons on the robotic platform in the tri-state area.

Dr. Shetty performs most of his cases, and all gastrointestinal cases robotically. “I have better visualization and depth perception,” said Dr. Shetty. “But more importantly, it is better for the patients. Their recovery is quicker and less painful, allowing them to get back to their daily activities sooner.”
