Your Stories: Saint Mary’s Introduces New Model in the Emergency Department

The Emergency Department Behavioral Health (EDBH) Crisis Model is a new practice implemented in the Saint Mary's Emergency Department on June 24 and will officially replace IRIS Telehealth, a telepsychiatry company, as the psychiatric consult service, effective July 1. Consults for Behavioral Health (BH) patients will now be completed by the EDBH Crisis (Social Worker) Team in collaboration with Saint Mary’s Hospital’s BH providers. This new model is expected to streamline the ED throughput, provide continuity and a holistic approach to care, and create a sense of comfort for BH patients. The Social Workers will work collaboratively with BH and ED providers and BH, O’ Brien 1, and ED nursing staff to provide care that meets the needs of our patients and is consistent with Trinity Health Of New England’s Mission.
