Your Stories: Mercy’s Healthcare for the Homeless Team Serves Holiday Meal
December 19, 2023Categories: Colleague Corner

For many years, Mercy Medical Center's Health Care for the Homeless Program has funded and hosted a wonderful evening and meal for those who come to the Friends of the Homeless shelter in Springfield. While the pandemic changed the level of involvement for colleagues for several years, the team was still able to cover the cost of the holiday meal. However, they were able to return to a more active role this year.
On December 12, the Healthcare for the Homeless team, along with members of Mercy’s Executive Leadership Team, members of the Sisters of Providence congregation, and the Most Rev. William Byrne, Bishop of Springfield, came together to serve the guests at the shelter and bring meals to their tables. The event was especially poignant for the Sisters of Providence who attended as the congregation started the Healthcare for the Homeless program forty years ago.
Everyone who passed through for the holiday meal also received a small “goodie bag” filled with items including socks and sweet treats.
