The Saint Mary’s Hospital community came together this Thanksgiving season to help the local Waterbury community in need. Over 25 baskets, filled with all the Thanksgiving dinner essentials, were put together by colleagues from various units and departments and donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury Soup Kitchen. In addition to all the “fix-ins,” the colleagues donated gift cards for families to purchase a turkey or protein of their choice.

As a result of colleagues’ overwhelming generosity, most of the baskets had enough food items for additional meals, beyond Thanksgiving. Included in the baskets were everything from staple items found at the Thanksgiving dinner table, to breakfast items, snacks, and decorations to help make each family’s holiday complete and festive.

St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury Soup Kitchen serves over 300 cooked meals per day to individuals and families experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Their food pantry also distributes weekly groceries at no charge, delivering over 45,000 bagged meals each year.
