Saint Mary’s Hospital Center for Nursing Professional Practice & Innovation (CNPPI) held its first Professional Practice Retreat on Friday, January 26 at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Lisa Roy MSN, RN, manager of CNPPI, hosted nursing leaders and direct care colleagues to lay the foundation to implement a Professional Governance Model and discuss innovative approaches to onboarding and orientation of new colleagues.
“This model is based on a shared decision-making platform,” said Roy. “It truly gives the bedside nurse the confidence and permission to feel empowered.”
A focus on colleague well-being was also a priority agenda topic. Speakers included Paula Bowley, MSN, RN, and Sally Silva, MSN, RN, both Nursing Professional Development Specialists. Shawna Edwards MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Stephanie Boccuzzi, M.Div., Mission Leader, presented lectures on strategic and innovative approaches to nurse recruitment and retention, and the many services, including spiritual support, dedicated to colleague well-being offered at Saint Mary’s Hospital.
“A rainy Friday became a day of sunshine and teamwork during this first successful retreat,” said Roy. “I’m very excited to see how the Professional Governance Model develops.”
