When it comes to patient care in the hospital, rehabilitation plays a monumental role in the recovery process. At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the inpatient rehab department exemplifies the Trinity Health Of New England Core Value of Reverence honoring the sacredness and dignity of every person and providing meaningful care to patients in their time of healing. “We provide our patients with the utmost respect and care to provide meaningful therapies during their hospital stay,” said Marisa Santopietro, DPT, Team Lead, Inpatient Rehabilitation Department, Saint Mary’s.

This year, National Rehabilitation Awareness Week was observed September 15-21. According to the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA), this year’s focus is “Restoring Strength and Rebuilding Lives.” The observance dates to 1976. For nearly 50 years, Rehabilitation Awareness Week continues to serve as a time to acknowledge the benefits of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology.
“Our inpatient rehab department is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team that brings forward a comprehensive perspective to allow us to view each person individually," said Marissa. "Our department focuses on improving a patient's quality of life, maximizing a patient's independence, and optimizing functional outcomes during a their hospitalization.”
