Every year the spotlight is put on X-ray programs from across the state at the Connecticut Society of Radiology Technology (CSRT) College Bowl. The annual event is dedicated to giving college students insight on the radiology industry from professionals in the field.

This year, Saint Mary’s and Saint Francis Hospital leaders in radiology represented Trinity Health Of New England at the event. Crystal Coulombe, BA, RT (R) (M), CPXP, the Director of Radiology and Cardiology Operations at Saint Mary’s Hospital and Melissa Begin RT (R), the Supervisor Diagnostic Radiology/MRI/IR at Saint Francis Hospital, spoke with future graduates about what it is like working in radiology. “I've attended the Connecticut Society of Radiologic Technology College Bowl every year since it returned post COVID. It's a great opportunity for me to talk with upcoming graduates and share the opportunities we have to offer,” Crystal said.
According to CSRT, “the purposes of the Society is to advance the science of radiologic technology, to assist in establishing and maintaining high standards of education and training, and to elevate the quality of patient care.”
Along with insight from industry professionals, each year at CSRT, students get to compete and test their knowledge on radiography, imaging, and program content. This year’s competition was held at Middlesex Community College in Middletown. Upon graduation, radiography students must pass a national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to be certified. The CSRT Bowl provides a fun way to test students’ knowledge for the exam.
