The hard work of 10 registered nurses was celebrated on March 6th with a graduation ceremony at Saint Mary’s Hospital. The nurses successfully completed Saint Mary’s one-year Nurse Residency Program (NRP). Shawna Edwards, DNP, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer; Lisa Roy, DNP, MSN, RN, Manager, Nursing Professional Practice, and Sally Silva, MSN, RN, NRP Coordinator, joined managers, directors, Nursing Professional Development Specialists (NPDS), hospital colleagues, and families of the graduates to recognize this milestone in their nursing career. Amy Mickolite, Manager of Spiritual Care, opened the ceremony with a prayer and blessed the NRP graduation pins.

Shawna set the tone for the graduation by sharing some inspirational words to all in attendance saying in part, “At the heart of everything we do is our purpose: to provide compassionate, high-quality care to those in need. We believe in the power of healing and the importance of making a difference in the lives of our patients and families.” Addressing the graduates, Shawna added, “As you move forward in your careers, remember that you are not alone. You are part of a larger family that is committed to your success and well-being… You are the future of healthcare, and I have no doubt you will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of your patients and the community.”
Graduate Kileen Robbins, RN, Operating Room, delivered the class address and described the first year as challenging at times, but also incredibly rewarding. “All those experiences helped to shape us into the nurses we are today. At the heart of our decision to become nurses is our desire to help others in need. It’s a desire that lives within us, not something we check in and out as we enter and exit the doors of the hospital.” Kileen ended her address saying, “Let us take a moment to celebrate our accomplishment! We did it!”
As is tradition at Saint Mary’s, the graduation ceremony closed with all nurses in attendance standing together to recite “A Nurses Prayer.” The graduates presented their evidence-based projects following the ceremony.
