During the week of March 2, the Greater Waterbury YMCA was filled with smiles and story time magic as the Saint Mary’s Hospital team joined young learners to celebrate Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Suess Day.

Over two days, Megan Mayeux, Mission Leader, Cheryl Hilton, Regional Manager of Community Health and Well-Being, and Community Health Workers Michelle Salgado and Monroe Hall visited 12 classes and read with 80 children aged 1 to 5.
Joy filled each room as children listened to stories that encouraged acceptance, confidence, and self-love. Favorites included “Positively Purple” by Linda Ragsdale and “Glow” by Ruth Forman. Megan Mayeux added extra excitement by dressing as the Cat in the Hat in honor of Dr. Seuss Day.
Saint Francis Hospital also joined the celebration by reading to children in Hartford. Together our teams helped spark imagination and support early literacy while strengthening the partnerships that make our communities thrive.
