On January 9, Saint Mary’s Hospital colleagues came together to donate backpacks filled with toiletries, hats, gloves, and socks for those in need throughout the Waterbury community. One Saint Mary’s colleague donated handmade hats and scarves, adding a personal touch to giving back.
Members of the Waterbury Police Department, Brian Gibbons Homeless Outreach and colleagues of Saint Mary's Hospital.
Members of the Waterbury Police Department (WPD) and Brian Gibbons Homeless Outreach visited the hospital to pick up the backpacks, ensuring they reach individuals who need them most. Students from St. John Paul the Great Parish in Torrington donated 76 backpacks filled with toiletries, hats, gloves, and socks as part of their Confirmation community service. Additionally, the Center of Human Development (CHD) Hospitality Center provided backpacks to support their clients during the winter season.
This initiative reflects Saint Mary’s commitment to caring for the Waterbury community beyond the hospital's walls. Several Saint Mary’s colleagues were honored for their contributions by the Waterbury Police Department. Captain Michael Stokes presented Husnain Kermalli, MD, Chief Medical Officer, with the WPD 165th Anniversary Challenge Coin called the “Emergency Response Team and Hostage Negotiation Team Coin.” Carmelina Calabrese, Patient Advocate, was recognized with a “Put On The Whole Armor of God” Coin, while Robin Cracco, MSN, RN, Clinical Manager, MS Infusion Center, was given an MS Center Police Mug.
