Your Stories: Saint Francis Colleague and Family Support Local Middle School
December 4, 2025Categories: Colleague Corner
Monique Milner, Financial Clearance Specialist at Saint Francis Hospital, and her family recently provided support for Hartford’s Milner Middle School and their holiday food box distribution. The school is named after Monique’s uncle, The Honorable Thirman L. Milner, who served as Hartford’s Mayor from 1981-1987 and left a powerful legacy always helping the community.
Monique and her husband, Duane, with the Thanksgiving boxes the Milner family helped provide to the families of students at Milner Middle School in Hartford.
During the school’s annual family dinner, which serves as a warm celebration of community and connection, Thanksgiving boxes filled with holiday foods are distributed. After learning the school was only able to fill 20 boxes this year, the Milner family sought help to fill the usual 60 boxes. Thanks to many blessings and an outpouring of support from the community, the Milner family was able to help provide 94 families in the community with Thanksgiving meals. Monique, along with several members of her family, came together to raise funds and gather food to ensure every family received a box. They also volunteered at the school to get the food boxed and ready to take home.
“Uncle Thirman would never see a student or family go without a meal,” Monique said. “And we wanted to continue his legacy. His photo in our home spoke to my heart and I knew we had to do something.”
