Saint Francis Hospital and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital recently celebrated the graduation of the Fall 2024 Nurse Residency Program cohort. These dedicated nurse residents successfully completed the yearlong program, representing a wide range of clinical specialties including congestive heart failure, cardiovascular care, emergency medicine, neuroscience, trauma surgery, and women and infants services.

The most recent cohort of the Saint Francis and Mount Sinai Nurse Residency Program celebrated their graduation.

Throughout the program, the nurse residents developed strong professional relationships, refined their time management skills, and enhanced their clinical expertise. Interactive learning experiences, such as a Jeopardy-style patient management game, fostered teamwork and engagement. Residents also explored essential topics like medication safety, prevention of hospital-acquired conditions through case study presentations, and advancing health equity.

A cornerstone of the program is the completion of evidence-based quality improvement initiatives. This year’s cohort tackled critical healthcare challenges through initiatives such as:

  • Car Seat Safety Education
  • The Importance of Labeling IV Tubing and Safe IV Guidelines
  • Impact of the Integration of the Charge Report Sheet on Patient Assignments
  • The Relationship Between Rest Breaks and Professional Burnout Among Nurses in Medical-Surgical Units
  • I&O Tracking Sheets: A Strategy to Enhance Documentation Accuracy
  • Reducing Violent Restraint Use in Secured Behavioral Health Units
  • Improving Patient Safety Through Bedside Shift Reports
  • Opportunities to Improve Prevention of Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPIs)

In recognition of their exceptional guidance, a preceptor was honored by a graduating resident.

“This milestone marks an important chapter in the careers of these new nurses, and we couldn’t be prouder of their growth and achievements.,” said Melissa Mulvey, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CV-BC, Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Center for Nursing Education & Practice Innovation.
